FREETOWN – Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Ambassador Tamba Lamina, has sharply criticised Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr for her public opposition to the government’s proposed redistricting of Freetown.
Speaking on the midweek edition of *Truth Morning Devotion*, Lamina described the Mayor’s 3 June open letter as “very disingenuous,” accusing her of using social media to sway public opinion instead of engaging through proper channels.
“You are the Mayor of Freetown. You don’t raise concerns on social media. That’s not how we engage,” the minister said.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr’s letter had warned that splitting the city would have “negative consequences for a vibrant city.”
However, Lamina maintained that any objections should be presented through formal dialogue with government authorities rather than public campaigns.
