In a significant legal development, Magistrate Santigie Bangura has officially referred the case of 30-year-old Mohamed Lamin Turay to the high court. Turay stands accused of the tragic killing of his own brother, Ibrahim Turay.
In a decisive ruling, Magistrate Bangura highlighted the presence of compelling evidence that implicates the accused in the alleged crime. The testimony provided by prosecution witnesses reportedly established a strong link between Bangura and the demise of his sibling, Ibrahim Turay.
Consequently, Magistrate Bangura has directed the case to proceed to the high court for a more extensive legal examination.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sorie Conteh, led the presentation of evidence, bringing forth four witnesses to testify in the case.
The accused, Mohamed Lamin Turay, was formally charged during the preliminary investigation, facing a single count of murder, as dictated by the law.
According to the charges, the incident took place on May 16th, 2023, at Pyke Street in Freetown, where Mohamed Lamin Turay allegedly took the life of his brother, Ibrahim Turay.
Notably, since the accusations were brought against him, the accused has appeared in court on nine separate occasions. During this period, he has remained incarcerated without legal representation on his behalf, a fact that has drawn attention and raised questions within the legal community and beyond.
