In a significant political development, Liberia’s President George Weah has announced his willingness to accept the outcome of Tuesday’s general election. An official from Weah’s party confirmed this decision to BBC on Thursday.
However, Mr. Koijee, a prominent figure in Weah’s party, expressed confidence in Weah’s victory and ruled out the possibility of defeat for the 57-year-old former football star.
Election officials reported a remarkably high voter turnout for Liberia’s fourth post-war election, indicating strong civic participation in the democratic process.
President Weah is anticipated to face a formidable challenge from former Vice-President Joseph Boakai, a 78-year-old candidate from the Unite Party. Boakai previously served as deputy to Ellen Johnson Sirleaf during her presidency.
According to the votes ccounted so far, Joseph Boakai is ahead of Weah in the tightly contested elections.
