Monrovia, Liberia – November 14, 2024 – The Sierra Leone National Senior Men’s Team, Leone Stars, has arrived in Monrovia, Liberia, ahead of their crucial final AFCON 2025 Qualifying match against Zambia’s Chipolopolo.
The high-stakes clash is set for Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the Samuel K. Deon Sports Complex, with Sierra Leone’s AFCON hopes on the line.
The Leone Stars’ qualification chances took a hit yesterday after a 1-1 draw against Chad at the Stade de Epimbe in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Abu Dumbuya opened the scoring for Sierra Leone in the 29th minute with a spectacular goal, but Chad equalized just five minutes later when Georgian-based midfielder Mahamat Thiaw converted a penalty.
With this result, Sierra Leone is in a challenging position in Group G. Ivory Coast leads with 9 points and has already secured their spot in AFCON 2025 with two games to spare. Zambia, currently in second place with 7 points, only needs a draw against Ivory Coast on Friday to secure their qualification. Leone Stars, with 5 points, sit in third, while Chad remains at the bottom with 3 points.
Sierra Leone’s path to AFCON 2025 is now narrow, relying on a win against Zambia and a Zambian loss to Ivory Coast. The pressure is on Leone Stars as they prepare for this decisive showdown in Monrovia.
