FC Cincinnati has officially signed veteran striker Kei Kamara to a contract through the 2025 season, with an option for 2026, the club announced on Monday.
The 40-year-old Sierra Leonean forward joins as a free agent, marking his record-setting 12th Major League Soccer (MLS) club—a testament to his enduring presence in the league.
Kamara stands as the second all-time leading scorer in MLS history, with 147 regular-season goals, and ranks fourth in appearances, having played in 445 matches . His prolific career includes stints with clubs such as Columbus Crew, Sporting Kansas City, and LA Galaxy. Last season, he contributed eight goals and five assists in 40 appearances for Los Angeles FC, aiding the team in securing its first U.S. Open Cup title.
“We’re excited to add a player of Kei’s quality, experience, and leadership to FC Cincinnati,” said General Manager Chris Albright. “While he’s clearly one of the most prolific goal scorers in league history, his skillset also adds a different dynamic to our attack.”
FC Cincinnati currently leads the Eastern Conference with 25 points from 12 matches, boasting an 8-3-1 record.
Kamara’s addition is expected to bolster the team’s offensive options, providing depth and experience as they aim for continued success this season.
Kamara’s journey in MLS began in 2006, and over nearly two decades, he has become one of the league’s most respected forwards. His return to Cincinnati is particularly notable, as the club had previously selected him in the 2018 MLS Expansion Draft, though he was traded shortly thereafter . Now, as he dons the Orange and Blue, Kamara brings not only his goal-scoring prowess but also invaluable leadership to a team with championship aspirations.
