Bah, passionately addressed the pressing issue of Kush addiction among the youth.
Emphasizing a shift from a purely law enforcement approach to a broader social and civic engagement strategy, Minister Bah underscored the need for a collective effort from all sectors of society to overcome this drug crisis.
President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to tackling the Kush crisis as a societal challenge, rather than merely a legal issue, was highlighted by Minister Bah. The inter-generational town hall, organized by the United Nations, provided a platform for an honest and frank conversation about the urgent matter.
Expressing gratitude to United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sierra Leone, Dr. Babatunda Ahonsi, Minister Bah commended the coordinator for facilitating a sincere dialogue on the issue. He stressed that now is the opportune moment to combat the adverse effects of substance abuse on Sierra Leonean society.
Minister Chernor Bah outlined the government’s proactive stance, noting President Bio’s personal commitment to eradicating illegal drug abuse. The Cabinet, through the Ministry of Social Welfare led by Minister Melrose Karminty, has acknowledged the severity of the issue. The collaborative efforts involve various ministries, government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and international partners.
