In a significant legal development, Magistrate Santigie Bangura has committed reality television personality Hawa Madiana Hunt to the High Court for trial.
This decision follows the conclusion of a preliminary investigation that determined sufficient evidence exists to proceed with the case.
Hunt faces charges under the Cyber Security and Crime Act, specifically allegations of cyber-bullying and stalking directed at President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Fatima Bio.
During the proceedings, her defense team submitted a “no-case” motion, arguing procedural irregularities and insufficient evidence. However, Magistrate Bangura dismissed this submission, citing the accused’s own confessionary statement to the police, and ordered that the matter be escalated to the High Court.
Throughout the hearings, Hunt’s bail requests were consistently denied, resulting in her continued remand. The High Court will now determine the course of the trial, where Hunt will respond to the charges levied against her.
This case has attracted considerable public attention, given Hunt’s prominence in the entertainment industry and the high-profile nature of the alleged victims. Observers anticipate a closely watched trial as it progresses through the judicial system.
