The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced scheduled power outages in parts of Freetown due to the installation of a new power transformer. This follows the completion and energization of the Falcon Bridge Substation.
In a public notice issued yesterday, EDSA detailed the upcoming work on the extension and installation of the transfer bus for the newly installed 40MVA power transformer at the Freetown 161 Substation.
The power outages are planned to ensure the safe and seamless integration of the new transformer into the network.
“To carry out this critical activity, EDSA management has engaged with the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC)/Salini and Karpowership. We have agreed to shut down their supply connection to the transfer bus on the following dates and times: Tuesday, 18th June 2024, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm; Wednesday, 19th June 2024, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm; and Thursday, 20th June 2024, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm,” the notice read.
During these scheduled outages, customers will experience interruptions in their power supply.
EDSA assured the public that these outages are necessary for the synchronization of the new transformer with the existing network infrastructure.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and sincerely apologize,” EDSA management stated. “However, upon completion of this exercise and the remaining components of the project, we anticipate enhanced reliability of power supply and an improved capacity to distribute electricity to more communities.”
EDSA emphasized that the schedule will be adhered to strictly to minimize disruption and ensure timely completion of the work.
