The Government of Sierra Leone has officially announced the implementation of new regulations regarding work permits for foreign workers and expatriate staff.
The Ministry of Employment, Labour, and Social Security issued a public notice on Wednesday, 19th March, 2024, informing the general public, as well as institutions and businesses employing or intending to employ foreign workers, about the enactment of the Work Permit (Fees) Regulations 2024.
The regulations, which stem from the Work Permit Act 2023 (Act No. 11 of 2023, Statutory Instrument No.1 of 2024), were presented to the Sierra Leone Parliament on 13th February, 2024, and have now come into effect as law.
All companies, businesses, industries, cooperatives, and informal institutions utilizing foreign workers or expatriate staff are urged to adhere to these regulations promptly. Specifically, they are required to comply with the stipulated Work Permit Fees for their foreign employees moving forward.
To facilitate the application process for work permits and their renewals, entities are directed to submit their requests to the office of the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Employment, Labour, and Social Security.
