Freetown, Sierra Leone – August 12, 2025 – The Government of Sierra Leone has officially announced that 37 members of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) are no longer under any form of criminal investigation.
The announcement, made by Attorney General and Minister of Justice Alpha Sesay, Esq., follows recommendations from the Resolution 4 Oversight Committee under the Agreement for National Unity (ANU) signed between the Government and the APC on October 18, 2023.
According to the Attorney General, the individuals, whose names were submitted by the APC, are now “free to go about their normal businesses without any interruptions,” as part of the Government’s commitment to fully implement all clauses of the ANU.
The cleared list includes notable figures such as retired Captain Desmond Gebara, former MP Hon. David Johnson, and Freetown political activist Sorie Ibrahim Koroma, also known as “Street Ambassador.” Many of those named have been living in exile.
Reacting to the news, Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr described it as “a day of mixed blessings,” celebrating the release of “APC Sheriff” and the clearance of the 37 members, while also marking the third anniversary of the killing of Evangelist Samson, which she commemorated with a tribute on social media.
She stated, “A day of mixed blessings. Thrilled that under Res 4, APC Sheriff has been released & all charges/investigations have been dropped for 37 APC members, mostly in exile! 🎉It is also the 3rd anniversary of the killing of Evangelist Samson. RIP 🙏🏾”
The move is seen as a significant step toward easing political tensions in Sierra Leone.
