Freetown, Sierra Leone – 14 March 2026 – The Government of Sierra Leone has announced that the price of petrol will remain unchanged at NLe32 per litre, while the price of diesel will rise to NLe35 per litre with immediate effect.
In a press release issued today by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, the government revealed that senior officials met this week with Oil Marketing Companies to review the volatile global fuel situation and its direct impact on prices and supply in the country.
The statement highlighted ongoing instability in the global oil market, driven by developments in the Gulf region and major disruptions to key shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz. These factors are pushing fuel costs and availability higher worldwide.
Following the high-level discussions, two immediate decisions were reached:
• Petrol price stays at NLe32 per litre.
• Diesel price increases to NLe35 per litre, effective immediately.
Oil Marketing Companies have further committed that there will be no additional price increases for at least the next two weeks, regardless of any further shifts in the global market during that period.
The government acknowledged the vital importance of fuel for public transport, electricity generation and everyday economic activity across Sierra Leone. It confirmed that authorities are working closely with petroleum companies to maintain steady supply and availability nationwide.
“Government will continue to monitor the global situation and keep the public informed,” the press release stated.
The update comes as households and businesses brace for the diesel hike, which is expected to affect transportation fares, generator running costs and the price of goods in the coming days. No further adjustments are anticipated in the short term, providing temporary relief amid the international uncertainty.
