Residents in several communities in Freetown are experiencing electricity disruptions after technical faults affected sections of the Far East Distribution Network at the Wellington Power Station, according to the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).
In a public notice issued on 13 March 2026, EDSA said the outages were caused by multiple technical failures across the network, impacting power supply in a number of locations.
The authority reported that the Old Wharf–Wellington area has been grounded after a load cable connecting the transformer to the low-voltage panel was burnt. Electricity supply to Dixson Farm along Grafton Old Road was also disrupted after two medium-voltage poles collapsed due to earth faults on the Kola Tree feeder.
At Bottle Field under the STEG Package near Kola Tree in Calaba Town, supply was opened off-load following damage to a load cable on the main breaker. Meanwhile, power at the PMTC facility near Upper New York Garage was grounded after the pole-mounted substation was vandalized.
EDSA stated that its maintenance teams have been deployed and repair work is ongoing to restore electricity to the affected communities.
The authority apologized for the inconvenience caused and called for patience and cooperation from the public while restoration efforts continue.
