Freetown, 21 June 2025 — The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced a temporary reduction in electricity supply across several regions of Sierra Leone, citing emergency maintenance and the commissioning of a new substation on the CLSG-Transco transmission line.
According to EDSA, the maintenance operation is expected to last three weeks, and will affect electricity supply in Kenema, Bo, Kono, and parts of Freetown. The work is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen and modernize the country’s power infrastructure.
In a move to cushion the impact of the power disruption, the Authority disclosed that it has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement with Guinea, which will help boost supply during the maintenance period.
“We are taking measures to ensure fair and equitable distribution of available electricity through load shedding and the use of alternative power sources,” the release stated.
EDSA has extended its apologies to the public, appealing for patience and understanding during the temporary disruption.
“These works are critical to improving the reliability and reach of electricity services nationwide,” the management emphasized.
