Mile 91, Tonkolili District* – A violent clash erupted during the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) lower-level elections in Mile 91, leading to the burning of houses and other valuables.
Robert Salia Kamara, Secretary-General of the SLPP in Tonkolili, confirmed the reports, stating that tensions flared between supporters of the two main candidates vying for the district chairmanship.
A widely circulated video on social media shows a house engulfed in flames, reportedly belonging to former Regent Chief Yusif Barrie, also known as Atatie.
The Mile 91 Police have yet to issue an official statement, and efforts to reach SLPP authorities in the district have been unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, the SLPP Secretariat in Tonkolili has announced the postponement of elections in the area until further notice.
