Freetown, Sierra Leone – December 16, 2025: A fleet of modern buses, recently unveiled and manufactured in China, is now prepared for shipment to Sierra Leone, marking the fulfillment of a key pledge by prominent businessman and All People’s Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, Mohamed Omodu Kamara, popularly known as Jagaban.
In September 2025, Jagaban signed a $3 million contract with a Chinese bus manufacturer during a visit to China, securing sixteen 60-seater buses aimed at alleviating the country’s chronic public transportation challenges. The vehicles, designed for comfort and efficiency, are expected to arrive soon and be deployed across major routes, easing congestion in Freetown and beyond.
This initiative comes amid ongoing struggles with public transport in Sierra Leone, where informal poda-podas and limited state-owned services often lead to overcrowding and delays.
Jagaban has further pledged to offer free rides nationwide for the first two months of operation, a move praised by supporters as a direct relief for low-income citizens burdened by rising transport costs.
The APC aspirant, known for philanthropic efforts including ferry projects and healthcare investments, described the buses as part of his broader vision for infrastructure development and economic empowerment. Training programs for local drivers and technicians will accompany the rollout, creating jobs and building skills.
Supporters hail this as “another promise fulfilled by Jagaban,” highlighting his track record of delivering tangible benefits outside traditional politics.
As Sierra Leone gears up for future elections, initiatives like this underscore the growing role of private-sector driven solutions in addressing public needs.
The arrival of these buses is anticipated to bring immediate relief and signal stronger Sierra Leone-China ties in trade and development.
