April 14, 2025 – Air Sierra Leone has announced a significant milestone in the country’s aviation sector, revealing plans to begin direct flight operations between Freetown and the United Kingdom later this month.
The new route, which will connect Sierra Leone to London via Gatwick International Airport, is set to officially launch on April 26-27, 2025.
“This is a proud moment for us and for Sierra Leone,” Air Sierra LLeone noted in statement issued today. “Just three months after our maiden commercial flight to Lagos, we are excited to expand our international network and bring Sierra Leone closer to the world.”
The new service will be operated by a state-of-the-art Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft, offering 189 seats. Flights from London will depart Gatwick every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 11:00 PM, arriving in Freetown at 5:00 AM the next day. Return flights will leave Freetown on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 9:00 AM, arriving in London by 3:00 PM.
To mark the occasion, Air Sierra Leone and the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) will host a joint press conference at Freetown International Airport on April 26 at 1:30 PM. A Grand Launch Gala Dinner will follow later that evening.
“The launch of this route is not just about transportation; it symbolizes the resurgence of Sierra Leone’s aviation industry and our readiness to connect with global markets,” said a representative from the SLCAA.
Ticket sales for the Freetown-London route will open during the launch event, with full commercial operations scheduled to begin on June 16, 2025. Tickets can be purchased online at [www.flysierraleone.com](http://www.flysierraleone.com), at the airline’s head office on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown, or through authorized sales representatives.
“As we continue to grow, our focus remains on providing world-class service, ensuring safety, reliability, and a pleasant travel experience,” the airline added. “We are proud to fly the flag of Sierra Leone and look forward to welcoming passengers aboard.”
This expansion marks another step in Air Sierra Leone’s mission to position the country as a key player in West Africa’s aviation landscape.
