President Julius Maada Bio has officially commissioned the Salone TAF City at John Obey, marking a major milestone in the government’s drive to expand access to modern and affordable housing beyond urban centres.
The project forms part of the President’s broader agenda to improve housing delivery, particularly in rural and peri-urban communities, while addressing long-standing challenges in land acquisition and development.
The initiative is also expected to ease difficulties faced by Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora who have struggled for years with land disputes and delays in building homes back home.
The development is the outcome of reforms within the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, which President Bio mandated in 2021.
Under the leadership of Minister Dr. Turad Senesie, the ministry underwent restructuring aimed at sanitising the lands sector, reducing conflicts, promoting affordable housing, and attracting private sector investment.
A key response to this reform agenda came from TAF Africa Global, led by CEO Mustapha Njie, through a public-private partnership with the government. The collaboration has now delivered the first phase of the Salone TAF Micro City at John Obey, comprising dozens of planned and affordable housing units.
Officials say the handover represents the culmination of nearly five years of transformation in a sector once characterised by disorder and disputes.
The commissioning of Salone TAF City is being hailed as evidence of progress from policy reforms to concrete development, setting a new benchmark for housing delivery and community planning in Sierra Leone.
