Freetown, 3 July 2025 – Sierra Leone’s President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has announced the nomination of Mr. Joseph Maada Lahai for the position of Commissioner of the National Youth Commission, under Section 11(1) of the National Youth Commission Act, 2009.
The appointment is subject to the approval of Parliament.
A formal letter dated 3 July 2025, signed by Barba B. Fortune, Secretary to the President, instructs Mr. Lahai to coordinate with the Clerk of Parliament to schedule an appearance before the Committee on Appointments and the Public Service.
Following parliamentary endorsement, further communication will detail his terms of office.
Copies of the appointment notice have been sent to key government offices, including the Vice President’s Secretary, the Leader of Government Business in Parliament, the Ministry of Finance, the Chief Minister’s office, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Clerk of Parliament, and the current Chair of the National Youth Commission.
This nomination reinforces President Bio’s ongoing commitment to youth development and empowerment through strategic leadership appointments.
