Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio has formally renewed the appointment of Mr. Andrew Bob Johnny as Statistician General of Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) for a fresh three-year term.
In an official letter dated 5th March 2026 and signed by Secretary to the President, Barba B. Fortune, the Presidency confirmed that Mr. Johnny’s initial tenure, which was due to expire on 31st March 2026, has been extended effective 1st April 2026 in accordance with Section 5(1) of the Statistics Sierra Leone Act, 2002.
The letter, referenced OP/EP 50/401/01 and addressed to Mr. Johnny at Statistics Sierra Leone, A.J. Momoh, Freetown, states that all terms and conditions of the appointment remain unchanged.
Mr. Johnny’s re-appointment comes as a strong endorsement of his stewardship at the helm of the country’s official statistics agency. Under his leadership, Stats SL has continued to raise the bar in data quality, timeliness, and relevance, playing a pivotal role in supporting evidence-based policy-making and national development planning.
“His Excellency Julius Maada Bio has re-appointed Andrew Bob Johnny as Statistician General of Statistics Sierra Leone. Mr. Johnny’s leadership continues to uplift the standard of Stats SL into higher level,” a source close to the Presidency noted.
Copies of the appointment letter have been sent to key government officials, including the Secretary to the Vice President, the Financial Secretary, the Development Secretary at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Chief Minister, the Accountant-General, the Auditor-General, and the Chairman of Statistics Sierra Leone.
The renewal is widely viewed as a vote of confidence in the ongoing transformation of Sierra Leone’s national statistical system and is expected to guarantee continuity and further professionalisation of official statistics in the coming years.
