A tragic incident occurred on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Victory Factory in Wellington, Freetown, when Prosper Kamara, an 18-year-old student from Almuhaireen Sheriff Islamic Secondary School, was found unresponsive during work hours.
Kamara had taken on a temporary job at the factory while awaiting the release of his Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, intending to raise funds for his senior secondary school education.
Eyewitnesses reported that Kamara was carrying bags of sand from the ground floor to an upper level when he suddenly collapsed. Some workers shouted “current, current,” indicating a possible electric shock.
According to insiders, several individuals, including two Indian nationals, attempted to revive him for over 30 minutes.
Kamara was rushed to Ahmadiyya Hospital in Calaba Town, but doctors declared he had passed away before arrival. Investigations revealed that Kamara was not wearing safety gear, a policy lapse at the factory. While some witnesses denied electrocution, speculating other causes, the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
The police from Kaibara Post were alerted and are currently investigating the incident.
