Bo, Sierra Leone – The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has arrested a man suspected of armed robbery after officers recovered a firearm, ammunition and other weapons during a routine stop-and-search operation at the Ngalehun Police Checkpoint in Bo District.
According to the SLP, the arrest was made on Sunday, 12 July 2026, when officers attached to the Bo East Division intercepted a vehicle at the checkpoint for a routine inspection.
During the search, police discovered a locally made short gun, three cartridges, and two knives concealed beneath the driver’s seat. The driver, identified as Ibrahim Mbayoh, was immediately taken into custody.
Police said the suspect was escorted to the Bo East Divisional Headquarters, where he is currently being held while detectives continue their investigations into the case.
The recovered firearm, ammunition and other exhibits have been retained by the police as evidence pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Sierra Leone Police said the arrest highlights the importance of routine checkpoint operations in combating crime, intercepting illegal weapons and enhancing public safety. The force noted that proactive stop-and-search operations continue to play a key role in preventing criminal activities and improving security across the country.
The police have not yet announced whether additional suspects are being sought or if formal charges have been filed against the suspect. Investigations remain ongoing.
