The Emergency Appeals Committee has overturned the Sierra Leone Premier League Disciplinary Committee’s decision to relegate Freetown City FC.
This follows a contentious penalty incident that occurred on June 30, 2024.
The original decision had awarded three points and two goals to Wilberforce Strikers, attributing the points to alleged misconduct by FCFC fans, officials, and players. Freetown City FC contested these allegations, arguing their innocence.
The Appeals Committee’s ruling mandates that the remaining minutes of the match between Freetown City FC and Wilberforce Strikers be played out in accordance with league regulations.
Additionally, a fine imposed on FCFC’s captain, Abdul K Turay, has been rescinded due to insufficient evidence to substantiate claims of referee assault.
The incident, which saw the match halted and subsequently canceled by the referee, has ignited widespread debate among fans and stakeholders.
This decision underscores the league’s commitment to fair play, transparency, and adherence to its regulations.
The match will now resume, allowing both teams to compete for the final outcome on the pitch.
