Conakry, Guinea – Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Guinea, Alimamy Hassan Bangura, has been placed under house arrest following the apprehension of his driver, who was found in possession of over 380 kilograms of cocaine and $100,000 in cash within the ambassador’s official vehicle.
Sources suggest that the seized cocaine may be connected to businessman Alhaji Bah and implicates several high-ranking officials within Sierra Leone’s government, including members of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority management.
Ambassador Bangura, who had intended to travel to Freetown last weekend, remains confined in Conakry due to the ongoing investigation.
The Sierra Leonean government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. However, reports indicate that officials are working behind the scenes to address what has been described as a “disgraceful” situation.
This development has raised concerns about the potential involvement of government officials in illicit activities and the implications for Sierra Leone’s international relations.
As the investigation continues, the diplomatic community is closely monitoring the situation, awaiting further details and official responses from the Sierra Leonean authorities.
