Dr. Elsiddig Mohamed Rahma, the Executive Director of the African Development Bank (AfDB), made a courtesy call on the Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, on Monday, 9th February 2026, at his office on George Street in Freetown.
Dr. Elsiddig Mohamed Rahma, who is on a two-day working visit to Sierra Leone, informed his host that the purpose of his visit is to strengthen dialogue with member states, foster collaboration, and deepen the understanding of Sierra Leone’s development priorities.
The Executive Director for Sierra Leone, Ghana, Liberia, The Gambia, and Sudan stated that, after he assumed this role, he has been visiting countries to understand their development landscapes, gain insight into economic performance, and strengthen collaboration between the Bank and institutions.
Minister of Finance Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura congratulated the new ED. He stated that the Bank has been a critical partner to the government and people of Sierra Leone.
He informed him of the government’s commitments to programmes and reforms with the Bank and other development partners, such as the World Bank and the IMF.
Minister Bangura informed the ED of recent economic gains in inflation, deficit, interest rates, and domestic revenue mobilisation.
He also highlighted government priorities in the Big Five Game Changers and discussed how the Bank can align its project portfolio with them.
Deputy Minister of Finance I, Kadiatu Allie, thanked the ED for the visit and expressed appreciation to the Bank for the longstanding relationship with Sierra Leone, with project interventions in several development areas.
During the two-day working visit, the ED is expected to meet other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of government.
