The Cyber Investigative Unit is currently investigating a notorious Scammer, impersonator, identity theft, online scammer, Cyber stalking, bullying and other Cyber related offences, which was reported by the Deputy Minister of Local Government Mr. Alfred Jamiru, and other citizens of the Republic of Sierra Leone, with a particular Orange Sim number 073- 534308 using the photo of the Deputy Minister on social media via WhatsApp purporting to be the Deputy Minister and extorting huge sum of money from business people and peaceful citizens through orange money transactions on the same number and other orange sim numbers.
This particular act posed a serious attack on the image of the Deputy Minister in a bid to assassinate his character.
Upon receipt of this task, the team used the Cyber tools and services to know the location of the said suspect.
Subsequently, on Saturday 21st October 2023, the team left Freetown for Port Loko where the suspect was located.
upon arrival, the Cyber team identified the location of the suspect at the Maforki Section of old Port Loko, and the team embarked on surveillance of the house to confirm that the suspect was indeed residing in the said house.
At 19:20 hours, the suspect was spotted leaving the house with a black Motorbike but was later returned to the house in less than 20 minutes.
At 20:00 hours, the Operations Team arrived at the suspect’s house and eventually, he fled the scene to the nearby bush but unfortunately, he was arrested about 500 meters by the Police Personnel.
The suspect was immediately taken to his residence where his mobile phone was collected along with sim cards. The suspect was arrested with his wife and was taken to the Port Loko Divisional Headquarters for safe custody.
BRIEF FACTS ABOUT THE SUSPECT.
✓His real name is Joseph Koroma.
✓His alias names are Josie Mourino, Josie, Daddy, and Abdulai.
✓He is 31 years old and he was born in Ronneta Village in the Tonkolili District.
✓His level of education is WASSCE
✓He was a one-time convict and had served his time at the Pademba Road Prison where he was lectured and learned to commit fraud and scam people.
✓After his prison term, he has been in the fraud and scamming business for over five (5) years to date.
✓Part of his fraudulent activities is to use the pictures of prominent people like the Inspector General of Police, Ministers, and other Business-minded citizens to ask them to send money through orange money.
✓He has other co-fraudsters using different syndicates to fraud and scam people and the Cyber team is after them as well.
✓Before his arrest, he was using the photo of the Deputy Minister of Local Government Mr. Alfred Jamiru on the orange sim number 073- 534308 to fraud and scam citizens.
The suspect is in Police custody at the Criminal Investigations Department whilst the investigation is still in progress.
