A 10-year-old girl identified as Becky Kargbo has reportedly died after falling into a gutter during a heavy downpour of rain at Yams Farm, Hill Station, along Abdulia Drive, at around 4–5 p.m. today.
According to a family member, Becky was playing in the rain with other children when they decided to cross a gutter to continue playing on the other side.
While the other children reportedly managed to cross safely, Becky attempted to cross but unfortunately slipped and fell into the gutter, which contained large rocks and a strong flow of rainwater.
Residents and elders in the area reportedly rushed to rescue her. However, the heavy flow of water made the rescue effort difficult. Her body was later recovered ahead, according to the account provided by the family member.
The tragic incident has left the family and community mourning the loss of the young girl.
A reminder to parents and guardians: Heavy rainfall can cause gutters and drainage channels to fill rapidly, creating dangerous conditions for children. Parents and guardians are urged to keep children away from fast-flowing water during and after heavy downpours.
May her soul rest in perfect peace, and may God grant her family strength during this difficult time.
