Koidu City, Sierra Leone — 27 June 2026 – The Resident High Court Judge in Kono, Honourable Justice Santigie Ibrahim Sorie Bangura, has sentenced 20-year-old Amos Aiah Daniel to life imprisonment for the sexual assault of a two-year-old girl that resulted in her death.
Justice Bangura delivered the judgment on Saturday after Daniel pleaded guilty to three counts of grave sexual offences against a child.
Daniel, of No. 9 Sandor Street, Koidu City, was arraigned on charges including:
– Sexual Penetration of a Child, contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (as amended);
– Meeting a Child for Sexual Purposes, contrary to Section 23(1)(a) of the Sexual Offences Act, 2012;
– Sexual Touching, contrary to Section 20(1)(a) of the Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
According to the prosecution, the two-year-old victim died on 4 March 2026 in Kono following the sexual assault allegedly carried out by Daniel.
When the charges were read to him in court, Daniel pleaded guilty to all three counts.
State Counsel Charles Foday Sesay informed the court that the convict has a previous conviction record and is currently standing trial for another serious offence.
In his allocutus, Daniel begged for mercy. His Defence Counsel, Alpha Osman Kamara Esq., urged the court to show leniency, noting that his client had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, cooperated with investigators, and did not waste the court’s time.
Justice Bangura acknowledged the guilty plea and the time saved by the court but emphasised the extreme gravity of the crime.
“The conduct of the convict was despicable and unimaginable for any human being,” the judge said. “By his actions, the convict robbed the nation of a potential contributor to nation building.”
Justice Bangura added that the young victim could have grown up to become a President, First Lady, Judge, Lawyer, Doctor, Nurse, or Accountant.
“These are the aspirations and dreams the convict has killed,” he declared, stating that the offence warranted the toughest punishment available.

Daniel was sentenced as follows:
– Count One (Sexual Penetration of a Child): Life Imprisonment
– Count Two (Meeting a Child for Sexual Purposes): 10 Years Imprisonment
– Count Three (Sexual Touching): 10 Years Imprisonment
The sentences are to run concurrently.
