Sierra Leonean female musician Vida Green has publicly accused a man she described as someone she “loved deeply” and “trusted completely” of repeatedly sexually assaulting and raping her.
In a lengthy statement shared on social media, the singer said she had remained silent for a long period out of fear, trauma, and concern that people would not believe her.
According to Vida Green, the alleged assaults occurred after she had undergone surgery and was still recovering physically and emotionally.
She stated that she had informed the accused individual that she was not ready to engage in sexual activity because of her healing process and surgery scars.
The musician alleged that despite her repeated pleas for him to stop, the man violently forced himself on her on multiple occasions.
“He sexually assaulted and raped me multiple times, despite my repeated pleas for him to stop,” she wrote.
Vida Green further claimed that during one of the incidents, her clothes and underwear were torn, while she sustained bruises and bite marks as she begged for the assault to end.
She said the trauma has severely affected her mental health, leaving her emotionally exhausted, unable to sleep properly, and struggling to function normally.
The singer also addressed the fear and stigma many survivors face when reporting sexual violence, saying she was afraid of being blamed or disbelieved.
“I feared hearing the same cruel questions survivors are often forced to endure,” she stated, referencing common victim-blaming reactions.
Vida Green explained that she decided to speak publicly because remaining silent had become unbearable and was continuing to affect her wellbeing.
The allegations have sparked reactions across social media, with many users expressing support for the musician and calling for accountability and justice.
As of the time of reporting, no official response had been issued by the individual accused in the statement, and there has been no confirmation of a police investigation into the matter.
