Waterloo, Sierra Leone — Saturday, July 20, 2025 – A tragic road accident on the outskirts of Waterloo at the 6 Mile area on Saturday has left three people dead and several others critically injured.
The accident involved a vehicle within the convoy of Batilo Songa, a leading aspirant for the position of SLPP Western Area Chairman.
Eyewitnesses report that the crash occurred suddenly and violently, killing three supporters instantly.
One of the deceased has been identified as John Muana, who was confirmed dead at the scene. Several others sustained serious injuries, including Alhassan George, who was reportedly among those most severely hurt. He and others are now receiving treatment in critical condition at nearby health facilities.
The accident, described by sources as “gruesome,” has sent shockwaves through the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and supporters of Batilo Songa, who have been expressing deep sorrow and offering condolences to the bereaved families.
“This is a very painful moment for our party and for the families involved,” said one SLPP supporter, who called for urgent attention to road safety for political convoys.
Authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Meanwhile, calls have intensified for political movements to prioritize road safety amid the heightened activities leading up to party elections.
