The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has charged Saidu Ibrahim Sahr Kanneh, a teacher at Sierra International Secondary School in Kenema, with eight counts of corruption-related offences, including academic malpractice and bribery.
According to an ACC press release, Kanneh faces three counts of academic malpractice, three counts of conspiracy to commit a corruption offence, and two counts of accepting an advantage, violations of Sections 128(3), 128(1), and 28(2)(A) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008, as amended in 2019.
The charges stem from an incident during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Chemistry Essay Paper 2 held at Karlkunle Senior Secondary School.
ACC officers reportedly caught Kanneh delivering written answers to candidates during the examination.
Investigations further revealed that he had collected answer booklets from some candidates, filled in responses on their behalf, and possessed unauthorized materials. It was also discovered that Kanneh allegedly received payments from two students, Morrison Vandi and Hawa Ngegba of Modern African Progressive Secondary School, to write the exam for them.
The teacher reportedly admitted to the offences and appealed for leniency.
In its statement, the ACC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of public examinations and eradicating corruption and malpractice within Sierra Leone’s education system.
