Freetown, 23rd October 2025 – The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has welcomed the findings of a new survey by the Institute for Governance Reform (IGR), which reports significant improvements in electricity access and reliability across Freetown.
According to the IGR report, nearly 80% of residents said they have noticed better electricity supply over the past year, a development that reflects EDSA’s continuing efforts to expand and stabilise power delivery in the capital.
The survey further shows that 83% of residents in the West End, 77% in Central Freetown, and 71% in the East End have experienced improved electricity services. Overall, 76% of respondents confirmed that the supply has strengthened, while 12% reported no change and another 12% observed a decline.
Despite this progress, the report also points to ongoing challenges — particularly concerns about the rising cost of electricity. In response, EDSA said it is working to enhance operational efficiency, stabilise voltage, improve service reliability, and intensify the fight against power theft and illegal connections.
“We are encouraged by the positive feedback from citizens and remain committed to providing consistent, affordable, and transparent electricity services,” said Tesman Egbe, Acting Director General of EDSA.
The authority also commended the Ministry of Energy for its technical support and coordination and expressed gratitude to IGR for its role in producing data-driven insights that contribute to policy reform and the advancement of Sierra Leone’s energy sector.
