Kingtom, 2 February 2026 — A delegation of Spanish medical specialists from the Surgeons in Action Foundation has paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, following their arrival in Sierra Leone to continue free surgical operations at the Police Hospital, at eKingtom.
Presenting the team, the Medical Superintendent of the Police Hospital, ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, informed the IGP that the mission marks the foundation’s 12th visit to Sierra Leone within the past three years. He expressed appreciation for the IGP’s consistent support, noting that his leadership has helped create a conducive working environment and driven significant modernization of the hospital, thereby improving healthcare delivery for police personnel and the wider community.
Dr. Konteh disclosed that the team plans to handle more than 200 medical cases, including surgeries for conditions such as goitre, lipoma, hernia, and appendicitis, among others.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Team Lead Dr. Eduardo Pera Del Pozo thanked the police medical staff and the IGP for their warm reception and continued collaboration. He said the Foundation conducts similar free surgical missions across several African countries and reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with local medical teams to improve patients’ outcomes. He also introduced members of the visiting specialist team.
In his remarks, IGP Sellu commended the Surgeons in Action Foundation for its sustained humanitarian support and dedication to providing free medical services at its own cost. He described the partnership as impactful and enduring.
“This initiative is not only a major boost for the Sierra Leone Police but also for the general public,” the IGP said, noting that previous missions attracted patients from neighboring countries including Liberia, Guinea, and Côte d’Ivoire.
He highlighted the transformation of the Police Hospital into a modern healthcare facility, attributing part of the progress to donations and technical support from the Spanish surgeons. In recognition of their contribution, IGP Sellu presented the team with medical certificates granting them legal authority to practice in Sierra Leone in accordance with national regulations.
