In a remarkable display of cultural solidarity, the Soso community from Sierra Leone and Guinea convened in Kambia, Sierra Leone, to celebrate their shared heritage and reaffirm the strong ties between the two nations.
The event took place against the backdrop of recent tensions involving Sierra Leoneans in Conakry and Guinean authorities.
The gathering, held under the distinguished patronage of Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone, was co-led by Soso Chief Alhaji Daawa Soumah from Forécariah in Guinea and Paramount Chief Bai Shebora Yek II of Samu, Sierra Leone.
Addressing attendees, First Lady Fatima Maada Bio expressed her delight at being part of such a significant cultural celebration. She praised the unity on display and extended gratitude to Hon. Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, whom she described as a trusted ally and family friend.
Fatima Bio used the occasion to call for an amicable resolution to the ongoing disputes between Guinean authorities and Sierra Leoneans in Guinea, emphasizing the shared history and deep bonds that transcend borders and languages.
Prominent figures from Sierra Leone’s government and opposition attended the event, including Finance Minister Ahmed Sheku Fantamadi Bangura, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Guinea Alimamy Bangura, and opposition APC leader Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh. Their presence underscored the spirit of political collaboration and unity.
