Freetown, July 19th, 2024: The ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has strongly condemned statements made by Kadiru Kaikai in a recent video shared on social media.
In the video, Mr. Kaikai threatened to incite violence in Sierra Leone if he is not elected President in 2028.
“If I do not become president of Sierra Leone in 2028, I will mastermind and bring a big war in Sierra Leone, far worse than anybody is expecting. I am well prepared and had even budgeted for it. To bring war in Sierra Leone, one only needs 3.3 million United States Dollars to start at Masiaka,” Kaikai stated in the video.
In response, the SLPP noted that they unequivocally condemn such reckless and dangerous statements,.
“These views do not represent the aspirations of our members. Threats of violence and war have no place in a civilized and democratic society and must be unequivocally denounced,” stated the party’s National Secretariat.
The SLPP emphasized its commitment to the safety and security of Sierra Leone’s citizens, noting that any attempt to disrupt peace and stability would not be tolerated.
“The Sierra Leone People’s Party stands firm in its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the well-being of our nation,” the statement continued. “We remind all Sierra Leoneans of the tremendous role the SLPP played in bringing peace back to our country.”
In response to Kaikai’s comments, the SLPP has suspended his membership with immediate effect, pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.
“Comments from individuals like Mr. Kadiru Kaikai should have no space within our politics,” the party declared. “All party executives in the Republic of Sierra Leone are advised to dissociate themselves from Mr. Kaikai and all his activities. Any attempt by Mr. Kaikai to use the name of our party and make a statement in any public forum will be met with serious legal actions.”
The SLPP reaffirmed its stance against any form of violence and extremism, pledging to remain vigilant in safeguarding the nation’s peace and security.
The party also urged its members to focus on supporting the government’s National Development Plan rather than engaging in premature election politics.
“This is not a time for party election politics,” the statement concluded. “We urge all our members to support the government in delivering its National Development Plan.”
