Kenema, Sierra Leone – Police have arrested six people in connection with the brutal killing of Rev. Fr. Augustine Dauda Amadu of the Catholic Diocese of Kenema, security officials confirmed.
Outgoing Assistant Inspector General of Police for the Southern Region, Brima Kanneh, speaking to Classic Radio, described the ongoing probe as “robust and fast-tracked.”
He noted that while a few suspects remain at large, law enforcement is committed to ensuring all perpetrators are brought to justice.
Investigators believe the suspects form part of a criminal gang linked to a series of violent robberies in Kenema. On 28 August 2025, the group allegedly stormed the residence of businessman Ezekiel Coker before launching a separate attack on the home of NASSIT-South Director, John Lamina, who is currently hospitalized in Freetown.
The following day, the gang reportedly targeted Fr. Amadu at his parish residence in Burma III, Kenema, where he was killed.
Police say some of the suspects are known repeat offenders and escapees from ongoing trials.
The murder has triggered outrage across Sierra Leone, drawing condemnation from religious leaders, civil society organizations, and international partners.
Authorities have assured the public that investigations will continue until all those involved are held accountable.
