Sierra Leone’s Consul in Lebanon, Hashim Hashim, affectionately known as Pa Hashim, passed away in Lebanon on Sunday, September 22, 2024, following a prolonged illness.
Pa Hashim, a well-known figure in diplomatic and commercial circles throughout the Middle East, brought significant visibility to Sierra Leone during his tenure.
Pa Hashim, remembered for his kindness and larger-than-life personality, was widely respected by key figures in Middle Eastern politics, diplomacy, and commerce.
His unifying nature earned him the reputation of being a man without grudges, treating everyone as family, regardless of their background.
The Consul’s death comes just five days after the passing of his twin brother, Hassan Hussein Hashim, Sierra Leone’s trade envoy to the Middle East. Both brothers, who spent their entire adult lives in Sierra Leone and were instrumental in fostering relations between the two regions, have been laid to rest in Lebanon.
The Hashim brothers, originally from Kenema and later residing in Freetown after the civil war, were well-regarded within Sierra Leone’s Lebanese community.
Pa Hashim was frequently consulted on issues relating to Sierra Leone due to his deep understanding of the country’s political dynamics.
Their passing leaves a void in the hearts of many who were touched by their selfless service to Sierra Leone and humanity.
