Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has revealed details of a critical meeting held during the 79th United Nations General Assembly.
In a statement shared on social media, President Bio announced that he had a “constructive discussion” with Ajay Banga, the President of the World Bank Group.
The dialogue, according to the president, centered on pressing issues such as energy access, food insecurity, budget support, and women’s empowerment.
“Our dialogue focused on enhancing energy access, tackling food insecurity, augmenting budget support, and promoting women’s empowerment,” Bio stated.
President Bio also praised the World Bank President for his leadership and ongoing reforms.
“I commend the World Bank President for the significant reforms he is spearheading and for the new Global Challenge Programs, which align with my Government’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (2024-2030),” he wrote.
Additionally, Bio reaffirmed his commitment to the International Development Association (IDA21) replenishment efforts.
“As a designated champion of the IDA21 advocacy, I am committed to advocating for a more robust IDA21 replenishment,” he added.
The meeting underscores Sierra Leone’s ongoing engagement with international partners to address critical developmental challenges.
