In an exclusive interview with AYV TV, Lahai Lawrence Leema, former deputy minister of Internal Affairs and national publicity secretary of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has pointed fingers at the security forces for the November 26 unrest in Sierra Leone.
Leema, expressing his concerns, highlighted the well-secured armory at Wilberforce military barracks but criticized the guards for failing to promptly call for backup when faced with attackers.
In a video analysis, he drew attention to the alarming scene of escaped prisoners from PaDemba Road prison casually roaming the streets of Freetown, emphasizing the lack of any visible security presence attempting to apprehend them.
Despite commending the security forces for eventually driving the attackers out of the city, Leema raised questions about the timing of their actions.
“The armory is highly secure, and the guards should have requested backup at the right moment. Additionally, the video clearly shows prisoners wandering freely in the streets of Freetown without any visible security presence,” said Leema.
While urging the government to prioritize the morale of the military and provide necessary support, Leema’s statements add to the ongoing discourse surrounding the recent security challenges in Sierra Leone.
