The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has issued a stern directive prohibiting its officers from wearing military uniforms or fatigues, following concerns raised by the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).
According to the notice circulated by CP Ismail Keita, Principal Staff Officer, the RSLAF expressed alarm during a recent National Security meeting at the Office of National Security (ONS) over the increasing misuse of military attire by individuals outside the armed forces, including police officers.
Dated 19th August 2025, the directive reminds all police personnel to take pride in their official uniforms and desist from using military gear without authorization.
The leadership further warned that violations could result in embarrassment and disciplinary action.
The SLP emphasized that the order must be strictly observed to safeguard professionalism, preserve institutional identity, and strengthen discipline within the country’s security sector.
