On October 30, 2024, the Southern Region Police, led by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Brima Kanneh, took significant steps in the fight against drug abuse by incinerating a large quantity of unclaimed narcotics at the New Barracks Police Field in Bo City.
The public burning included loaded crates containing Tramadol, Kush, and Cannabis Sativa, meeting a long-standing demand from the local community for more robust action against the proliferation of these harmful substances.
The event attracted a large, supportive crowd, who lauded AIG Kanneh’s unwavering commitment to public safety. His leadership not only strengthens law enforcement efforts but also cultivates a sense of trust within the community, motivating residents to actively support ongoing anti-drug initiatives.
Detective Police Constable Mohamed Patrick Ngobeh, known for his vigilance at the Fallah Checkpoint, was pivotal in several recent drug seizures leading to this incineration. Constable Ngobeh’s diligence and thorough search protocols have established the checkpoint as a critical barrier against drug trafficking.
He was recognized during the event for his dedication and encouraged to maintain his exemplary work, with assurances that such commitment will be duly acknowledged.
Brigadier GM Bangura of the 5 Brigade Gondama Military Barracks also spoke at the gathering, commending the Police Force for its transparent and accountable methods. Representatives from various civil society organizations echoed these praises, applauding the police’s collaborative approach as they work towards a community aspiration for a drug-free society.
With AIG Kanneh at the helm, the Southern Region Police have set a standard for effective policing that may inspire other regions in Sierra Leone. Enhanced operations at checkpoints, particularly those led by Constable Ngobeh, highlight the force’s dedication to transparency and community safety.
As the event came to a close, attendees expressed their hope for ongoing efforts to build a safer environment devoid of drug-related issues, further solidifying the positive relationship between the police and the community they serve.
