In a significant operation on Sunday morning, police at the Fallah checkpoint along the Bo-Taiama Highway arrested two suspects in possession of a substantial quantity of Kush, an illegal drug concealed in a black plastic bag.
The suspects, Sullay Bayoh and Nyakeh Vandi, both residents of No. 94B Wilkinson Road, Freetown, were traveling in a black, tinted vehicle with the registration number AWQ 115.
The operation was led by Detective Police Constable Patrick Mohamed Ngobeh and Military Police Officer Corporal Kanu.
A routine search at the checkpoint revealed the concealed drugs, prompting the Bo West Division operations team to assist in safely transporting the suspects for further investigation by the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU).
During interrogation, suspect Nyakeh Vandi admitted to being a distributor of Kush for Dodo and Kasama villages in Tikonko Chiefdom, Bo District. Both suspects, along with the seized drugs, are now in police custody as investigations continue.
This arrest is among several significant drug-related apprehensions made at the Fallah checkpoint under the leadership of Regional Police Commander Southern Province, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Brima Kanneh.
AIG Kanneh has emphasized the critical nature of combating illegal drugs, noting that the proliferation of substances like Kush significantly contributes to rising crime rates in the region.
He assured the public that all individuals arrested for drug-related offenses would be held accountable without bias.
