Freetown, Sierra Leone – The National Communications Authority (NatCA) has addressed the recent internet outage that impacted the country.
In a statement released today, NatCA provided details on the steps being taken to resolve the issue and prevent future disruptions.
“Following the outage of the internet subsea cable on Sunday, August 4th, 2024, an emergency meeting was called by NatCA yesterday, August 5th, 2024, which is continuing today, August 6th, 2024, to firm up the most immediate short-term redundancy plan among the players,” the statement read.
The key players involved in the meeting include ACE Consortium member Zoodlabs, Leonecom-the terrestrial fibre company, mobile network operators (MNOs), and internet service providers (ISPs).
The statement further elaborated on the agenda of the ongoing discussions, stating, “The meeting will continue to further examine the short, medium to long-term options of Internet connectivity through the Terrestrial Fibre Backbone with Guinea, 2Africa cable, Amilcar Cabral cable, and the Transco cable on the CLSG transmission line.”
NatCA emphasized its commitment to restoring stable internet services and exploring various options to ensure reliable connectivity in the future.
