The Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, has met with the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre (NCCC) in a strategic session held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Kingtom Police Barracks.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration and tackling key challenges in police-led cyber investigations, with a strong emphasis on building the capacity of law enforcement officers to respond to emerging digital threats.
During the engagement, Richard Redwood-Sawyer, Director of Cybersecurity Resilience at the NCCC, reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to supporting cyber investigators within the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).
He outlined ongoing initiatives to identify skill gaps, develop tailored solutions, and roll out Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to guide cybercrime units.
Redwood-Sawyer also stressed the importance of general security awareness and specialized cybersecurity training as central pillars of their strategy.
Senior SLP cyber officers raised concerns over persistent challenges hindering investigations and called for advanced technical training to strengthen the force’s capacity to combat complex cyber threats.
This landmark engagement signals a shared commitment to enhancing the SLP’s cybersecurity capabilities and lays the foundation for future training programmes aimed at improving service delivery and aligning the force with modern investigative standards.
IGP Sellu welcomed the initiative, urging closer cooperation with the NCCC. He directed ASP David Mbayo, Head of ICT, to take the lead in ensuring effective collaboration with the Centre.
