In a significant development, the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to Sierra Leone has announced the presentation of its Final Report on the General Elections held on June 24, 2023.
The press is cordially invited to this event, where Chief Observer Evin Incir, Member of the European Parliament, will lead the proceedings. The event will take place today, Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 4:00 PM at Radisson Blu Hotel, Lumley Beach, Aberdeen, Freetown, Room Aberdeen 1.
Chief Observer Evin Incir will provide valuable insights and findings gleaned from the EU EOM’s observation mission during Sierra Leone’s General Elections earlier this year.
In addition to the presentation, Chief Observer Incir will be available for one-on-one interviews with members of the media.
On 21 June, the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) deployed 40 short-term observers (STOs) to all 16 districts of Sierra Leone where they will primarily observe the opening, voting, and counting of the ballots, as well as the tabulation of the results.
The European election observers said there were “statistical inconsistencies” in the presidential results published by the electoral commission, which declared President Julius Maada Bio the winner of June’s vote.
They called on the commission shortly after the results were announced to promptly publish disaggregated results data per polling station to allow for public scrutiny of the results, without which it said transparency was compromised.
