Freetown, May 12, 2025 — Former presidential candidate of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, has officially requested a postponement of a scheduled interview with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Cyber Crime Unit.
The request follows an invitation extended by the CID to Dr. Kamara regarding circulating video and audio recordings in which he is alleged to have declared himself the “President-elect of Sierra Leone” — a statement that has sparked widespread discussion.
In a letter dated May 1, 2025, addressed to the Head of CID and signed by his legal representative, Franklin Bai Kargbo, Dr. Kamara expressed his willingness to cooperate with investigators but sought clarification and a rescheduling of the meeting.
“As you are aware, your invitation can be declined or accepted,” Kargbo wrote. “However, my client, being a model good citizen, is inclined to cooperate with you in the referenced matter.”
The letter emphasized the need for more specific information concerning the date and location of the incidents in question.
“He would therefore be most obliged if you would kindly avail him of further and better particulars,” the statement continued.
Dr. Kamara, according to his legal team, is currently out of Freetown attending to urgent family matters. In light of this, his lawyer formally requested a new and convenient date for the interview.
“It is my client’s hope that you would allow for the expeditious settlement of this matter and in the interest of national stability,” the letter concluded.
The matter has also been brought to the attention of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, as per the letter’s copied recipients.
Neither the CID nor the police have issued a public response to the postponement request at this time.
