Freetown, Sierra Leone – In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Samura Kamara, the leader of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), addressed the nation on Sunday.
His speech, imbued with religious and inspirational undertones, emphasized the need for unity, faith, and a recommitment to democratic principles as the country awaits the outcomes of the Tripartite Committee’s work on the recent electoral process.
Kamara began his message by quoting Proverbs 3:5-6, stating, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
He reminded citizens of the day, June 24, 2023, when “our democracy stumbled,” referring to the flawed electoral process that he claims shook the pillars of transparency, accountability, and fairness in Sierra Leone.
“But today, as the sun rises over our resilient land, we must stand united, determined to rewrite our story,” Kamara urged.
He emphasized that true strength lies not in “flawed systems but in our unwavering faith in God/Allah,” calling for a collective trust in a reborn Sierra Leone where justice prevails.
Kamara also highlighted the importance of international support, noting, “Our partners—development agencies, regional allies—stand by our side and together, we are forging a path toward unprecedented electoral justice.”
He vowed that no longer would “shadows obscure the ballot boxes; every vote shall be a beacon of hope.”
Addressing various segments of society, Kamara called for submission to a greater vision, stating, “Our youth, the heartbeat of our nation; our women, the mothers of our nation; and all the old, the unemployed, the physically challenged, all, victims of electoral injustice, submit their dreams, their aspirations, their hunger for change.”
He envisioned a future where “the winding roads of blatant economic, political, and social injustices” would be straightened by collective resolve.
Kamara called on political leaders to lay a strong foundation for future generations, honoring the labor of ancestors and ensuring equality and opportunity for all.
In his closing, Kamara invoked a powerful image of renewal, proclaiming, “Sierra Leone, rise! Let all future ballot boxes overflow with hope. Let electoral justice and accountability flow like the Bintumani Falls.”
The opposition leader’s message resonates as the nation waits for the next steps in addressing the electoral grievances.
Kamara’s appeal for unity, faith, and a commitment to justice underscores the ongoing struggle for a fair and transparent democratic process in Sierra Leone.
May Allah bind Sierra Leoneans in faith, unity and peace, as we hopefully await to restore democracy and political stability in our beloved Nation. The grassroots must be treated with respect, and our votes must reflect our will, and entertain a sustainable change for a better Sierra Leone. Together we can as a Nation, and we will.
The rule of law would have prevailed if really elections were stolen. Where are the evidences if so? Let stop deceiving our supporters. Let stop this blame game, it is over what next for 2028? Better strategy for 2028 now required.
