Benguema, Sierra Leone — In a proud moment for the nation, more than 1,000 cadets and recruits of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) have successfully completed the first phase of their nine-month military training programme.
The passing-out ceremony was held on Saturday, 4th July 2026 at the Benguema Military Training Centre, where the young men and women were celebrated for finishing their initial training. This milestone highlights the Government’s commitment to building a stronger, more professional Armed Forces while creating jobs for Sierra Leone’s youth.
These recruits form the second batch of the planned recruitment of 3,000 young Sierra Leoneans under the Big Five Game Changers initiative. The programme is designed to tackle personnel shortages in the military, provide meaningful employment opportunities for our young people, and enhance national security.
Speaking at the event, military officials praised the recruits for their discipline, hard work, and dedication. The new soldiers will now proceed with more advanced training to equip them with the specialised skills needed to serve effectively as fully trained members of the RSLAF.
The Government has made it clear that strengthening the Armed Forces remains a top priority, especially as Sierra Leone works to protect its borders, respond to security challenges, and maintain peace and stability across the country. This recruitment exercise is expected to not only bolster the military’s operational readiness but also give thousands of young Sierra Leoneans a chance to serve their nation with honour while securing a stable future.
The successful completion of this first phase at Benguema Barracks is another important step in the Government’s efforts to empower the youth and modernise the security sector. As these young recruits continue their journey, they join a new generation of dedicated personnel ready to defend Sierra Leone and support the nation whenever called upon.
This development brings hope and pride to many families across the country, showing that with determination and opportunity, Sierra Leone’s youth can contribute meaningfully to building a safer and more prosperous nation.
