The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has issued a strong alert to entertainment promoters, cautioning that hosting any taxable event without a valid Tax Clearance Certificate is a punishable offence.
According to the Authority, the directive covers all chargeable activities, including parties, outings, music festivals, album launches, and similar events governed under the amended Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act of 2009.
The NRA stressed that obtaining a Tax Clearance Certificate requires organizers to first settle GST obligations based on projected revenue from the event. Officials described this requirement as *non-negotiable.
Enforcement is set to take effect immediately. The Authority says it will shut down venues operating without compliance and seize equipment or other assets belonging to organizers who fail to show proof of GST payment and certification.
The NRA urged promoters to follow the law to avoid penalties, event disruptions, and potential financial losses.
“Event organizers must strictly comply with all tax requirements,” the statement concluded.
