A Nigerian national, Iwuchukwu Ebere Christian, hailing from Imo State, has appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at the Pademba Road Magistrate’s Court No. 1 in Freetown, facing serious drug trafficking charges following his arrest at Freetown International Airport in Lungi.
Christian was apprehended on 25 June 2025 at the airport in the Port Loko Judicial District, allegedly in possession of 46 pellets of cocaine.
He now faces four charges, including transportation, collection, and unlawful possession of prohibited drugs, all in contravention of Section 7(B) of Sierra Leone’s National Drugs Control Act of 2008.
According to police reports, the accused was intercepted while attempting to smuggle the drugs without lawful authority. His arrest adds to growing concerns about drug trafficking routes passing through Sierra Leone’s primary international gateway.
During his initial court appearance on Monday, no plea was taken. State Prosecutor Nathaniel Williams requested an adjournment, stating that he had only just received the case file and needed additional time to prepare.
The magistrate granted the request, ordering that the accused remain in remand until the next hearing, scheduled for 24 July 2025.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
