Freetown, June 14, 2025 — Another devastating incident has rocked the community of Lumley Road as a wall collapse at Mansaray Drive claimed the lives of a mother and her young child, leaving another child in critical condition.
According to eyewitnesses, the tragic event occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning when the perimeter wall of a residential compound gave way, crashing down on the unsuspecting family. Neighbors rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue the victims from the rubble.
Emergency services arrived shortly after, confirming the deaths of the mother and one of her children on site.
The surviving child, believed to be around seven years old, was rushed to Connaught Hospital and remains in intensive care, fighting for their life.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with early reports suggesting structural weaknesses and poor drainage as contributing factors. Heavy rainfall overnight may have further compromised the stability of the wall.
This incident comes amid growing concerns over building safety standards and urban planning enforcement in the Freetown municipality. Residents are calling for urgent action to prevent further tragedies, as similar collapses have occurred in the past with devastating consequences.
